The Bird and Animal People

Yokuts called their ancestors  the Bird and Animal people.  The Bird and Animal people were magical.  They talked like Yokuts, played the same kind of games; ate the same kind of food, and they knew how to make the same kinds of bows and arrows.

In fact,  Yokuts believed that the Bird and Animal people could do everything humans could do--except for one thing.  And that one thing was that they never died.  The Bird and Animal people lived forever.
